Preparing the Christmas Letter Matching Activity
This Christmas letter activity requires little prep. First, download the freebie. Next, print and laminate the Santa Claus letter mat and the letter cards. Lastly, cut apart the letter cards.
Invite kids to pick a letter card and say its name. Then, the kids find the matching letter on the Santa Claus mat. When they find the letter, they trace or color it. You can also pair this activity with small magnetic letters.
Another way to use this Christmas alphabet activity is to pair it with a sensory bin. Use a shallow container and fill it with your favorite sensory bin filler. Place the letter cards in the bin, and invite kids to pick a letter card. They will identify the letter and then find it on the letter mat.
Kids can also use small manipulatives to cover the letters on the mat. Add in a fine motor component by having kids place mini erasers or mini pompoms on the mat with tweezers or tongs.
